Abstract

Sepsis is a leading cause of neonatal mortality and puts survivors at risk of life-long disability. Understanding the current state of knowledge, perceptions and practices among healthcare professionals taking care of newborns with sepsis will help to develop targeted educational interventions aimed at improving patient care and outcomes. The Neonatal Sepsis Awareness for Education (neoSAfE) study included 418 nurses and 108 physicians working in seven tertiary care neonatal units in Switzerland. Clinical scenarios and questions tailored to the profession were used to assess the understanding of nurses and physicians regarding sepsis initial evaluation and management. In this webinar we will present the findings of the survey, highlighting the strengths and knowledge gaps identified among the participants, and will review key aspects in the diagnosis and management of neonatal sepsis.
